Shimonah Israel

Senior Program Officer,
Local Initiatives Support Corporation

Shimonah B. Israel is the Senior Program Officer of Field Excellence at Local Initiatives Support Corporation's National Office. In her role, she supports the community development financial investment activities of LISC's local offices, spanning 39 states and 2100 rural counties, towards the advancement of historically marginalized populations. Shimonah previously served as a Director of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation's Center for Personal Financial Health from 2017-2022. During her tenure, she managed the Connections to Care initiative which entailed the oversight of screening, psychoeducation, general counseling, and access to mental health resources for thousands of New Yorkers. Shimonah has been a Professor at Touro College since January 2015; she is responsible for developing undergraduate students’ understanding of the human services profession, and the changing nature of case management, psychotherapy, and gerontology. With a dual career in nonprofit management and gerontology, she works tirelessly to improve the quality of life and care of underserved vulnerable senior residents throughout New York City. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of YWCA Brooklyn and Bloom Again Brooklyn. Shimonah received her Master’s Degree from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, and completed a Developing Leaders Program at Columbia University.
