Katie Stimler, MPH

Katie Stimler is a current graduate student in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at George Washington University working towards becoming a future physician. She completed her master’s in public health and majored in biochemistry at GWU and The University of Akron. Katie has over a decade of experience working with community-based organizations. She has worked in multidisciplinary teams that included physicians, social workers, therapists, and detectives to support survivors’ journeys through challenging systems but also towards healing. She has trained law enforcement in police precincts and community-based organizations on trauma and gender-based violence. Katie also served as the assistant director of a behavioral health program where she inspired others to enrich and promote the health of communities. At the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in New York City, Katie participated in various research projects that involved community capacity building, helping communities to analyze and apply high-quality data, and disseminate results. During her time there, she also collaborated with the Department of Education on the HD4NYC project to support LGBTQ+ youth, while partnering with stakeholders to develop a program to address stigma and improve mental health access and care for Latinx communities.
